A two-way mirror is a cross between a
mirror and tinted glass. It differs from a regular mirror in that the
reflective metal layer in it is much thinner. This allows the rays of light to
penetrate through it. Thus, a two-way mirror looks like a mirror on the one
hand, and as tinted glass - on the other.
Using the right lighting, you can get
a particular effect if you divide two rooms by such a mirror. The bottom line
is that a person from the side of the mirror surface of the glass will only see
his reflection, and a person from the other side will see the objects behind
the glass. To reach this, you must light the first room much brighter than the
second. Due to this, the reflection of a bright room in the mirror will mask
the faint light, which penetrates from the second room. In the opposite case,
the mirror will be translucent on both sides.
This technology is often used for
surveillance, which can cause negative associations. However, a two-way mirror
can be used to decorate the interior and exterior completely legitimate and
harmless. For example, such glass is
very often used to create facades and windows of buildings. This allows you to
expand the space inside and get additional lighting. At the same time, people
inside are protected from the curious glances of passersby.
You can also use a two-way mirror as
a material for interior doors, screens, mansard, or simply as decoration. Different
techniques for creating such a mirror allow you to choose its color. The mirror
can be blue, turquoise, gold, green or steel depending on your preferences.
